PDROWELLBEING

Who We Are

The Psychosocial Development and Response Organization (PDRO) is a lived experience–led, community-driven movement transforming mental health care in Kenya. Founded by individuals who have walked the journey themselves, we turn lived experience into expertise—driving change grounded in dignity, inclusion, and human rights.

Our work is guided by a holistic, rights-based approach rooted in community wisdom. We embrace the Bio-Psychosocial and Survivor-Led Models to ensure that every voice is heard, valued, and actively shapes the solutions we create.

We believe that people are experts in their own wellness. Lived experience is not just personal—it is knowledge, leadership, and a force for change.

That is why we integrate non-clinical mental health approaches informed by lived experience insights and learning.

Through this approach, we bring essential and often overlooked perspectives into the mental health space, helping to shape more inclusive, humane, and community-centered systems of care.

Our Vision

A society where mental health is a fundamental human right, led by individuals with lived experiences who drive reforms, shape care, and live productive, fulfilling lives.

Our Mission

To empower persons with lived mental health experiences to become advocates, leaders, and experts in the mental health field by tapping into their lived experience-based knowledge.

Our Approach

  • Person-Centered Care

We honor the whole person—mind, body, emotions, identity, and lived reality. Every response is shaped by dignity, context, and individual experience.

  • Creative Expression for Healing

We use art, music, poetry, and storytelling as powerful tools for healing, reflection, and emotional expression, creating space for voices that are often unheard.

  • Lived Experience Expertise

We recognize lived experience as knowledge and leadership. People are not passive recipients of support—they are co-creators of solutions.
